My inspiration comes from wanting to express the vibrancy of the area. The Moulin Rogue and the nearby Sacre Coeur seem to have a constant flow of people between them in this busy area of Monmarte. I want the viewer to feel the movement and general busy atmosphere of the place. I chose the subject matter after a recent visit when I was impressed by the whole scene enough to want to capture it. I feel that the size of the canvas in terms of it's width serves to emphasise the intended message as I have described above.
