Two hikers with backpacks traverse a quaint Cyprus village, followed by two curious cats. Every stone reminds me of the history of Cyprus. Even the two cats remind me of the Legend of how they came to be in Cyprus. Cats were introduced to Cyprus by the Byzantine Empress St Helen of Constantinople, who sent them from Egypt or Palestine in the 4th century AD to fight poisonous snakes that had poliferated during a prolonged drought. The cats did the job, saved the island from snakes and became an integral part of it's history and culture.
